I’m not looking to join any games, I just want to know: What is everyone’s experience playing a tabletop RPG virtually? Whether you do it on Zoom or over some kind of app doesn’t matter — I just want to know if you find the experience satisfying, or if you prefer to play in person.
For me, I generally prefer to play in person.
Since everyone in the long-running epic game that I have the pleasure of playing in moved to different states, it’s the only way to do it.
We use various tools. It relaxes some things, it makes some things more annoying.
The characters in our current party got some magical mapping devices and spells; which allows the gamemaster to just throw up the map on the screen and gradually reveal it as we discover it; to his great ease and our great pleasure. (We used to have to map from verbal description.)
